Kamalame Cay is a ‘barefoot chic’ Caribbean retreat featuring 19 luxurious seaside rooms and suites in a range of charming, bougainvillea-draped cottages and bungalows, peak roof Balinese beach houses and classic Plantation style villas. Furnished with art, books, antiques and a collection of South Asian and Bahamian decor, the Great House is a gathering place where guests enjoy cocktails and meals. A white sand path off the garden terrace, leads to a heated, fresh water pool edged in towering Silver Palms as well as a Tiki Bar with open grill that regularly hosts torch-lit, Bahamian beachside banquets enlivened by local “rake & scrape” bands

A quick flight from major hubs such as New York, Toronto and Miami, yet worlds away from Nassau’s trendy, resort-lined beaches, Kamalame’s utterly private accommodations are tucked into 96-acres of swaying palms and flowering tropical foliage. A lush oasis ringed by three miles of deserted, white-sand beach and colourful coral gardens, the warm, turquoise waters just off shore teem with manta ray, parrotfish and blue tangs.

Sliced into the Silver Palms that embrace the island, the Great House serves as a welcoming social hub for dining and cocktails and is just a few steps from the heated, freshwater pool, sweeping ocean views and al fresco beach bar. Modern interpretations of classic Bahamian cuisine combined with sophisticated wines and spirits, comfortable elegant island décor, and one of the only overwater spas in the Caribbean underscore Kamalame’s gracious ‘barefoot chic’ character.

Accommodation

Fronted by private verandas, the island’s charming wood frame cottages overlook the marina and the Cay’s less windy leeside cove. Marina Rooms are conveniently located nearest to the Great House, Tiki Bar, pool and reception.

Our Beach Rooms Driftwood and Mahogany consist of a single large room enhanced by a comfortable seating area. Each one has its own private entrance with a connecting door (lockable from both sides) allowing access to the adjoining room – perfect for families or groups of friends.

Seaside octagons wrapped in French doors and wide verandas, the island’s five beach cottages offer expansive ocean views and supreme privacy just a few steps from the sugar sand seashore. Sapodilla North & South, situated within closest proximity to one another, are particularly suited for small families or couples travelling together.

The two-level, 6,000-square-foot Cocoanut is the island’s largest villa and sleeps up to 12 guests (in six suites) while offering an additional two bedrooms for support staff. Its vast great room offers panoramic ocean views and is lined in French doors that open onto a wide, wrap veranda on three sides. The open plan living dining room, offset with a full kitchen and free standing wet bar is accentuated by thoughtful interior accents and hand carved South Asian furnishings.

Two of the six suites – each with an en suite bath with a soaker tub – are connected to the great room. The remaining four, also located on the villa’s upper level, are connected as private wings via sweeping verandas. The villa also features a 1,000-square-foot foot game room on its lower level furnished with a billiards table, generous lounge area, wet bar and a 64” flat-screen TV.

Dining

Those looking for even more romance can enjoy Kamalame’s private seaside gourmet dinners with endless flutes of Champagne over flower-strewn tables illuminated by candles and torches – the perfect complement to the Cay’s dreamy three-mile stretch of moonlit beach. Private picnics on idyllic deserted islets are also available. Dropped off by boat or seaplane on a deserted island with your special someone, picnic basket in hand, guests can enjoy a totally uninhabited beach for as many hours as they wish.
